What is CyberDuck?

Cyberduck is an open-source client for FTP/SFTP available for macOS and Windows.


What do we need it for?

It is a piece of software that provides a graphic user interface that allows transfer of files between your computer and a server.


Downloading CyberDuck:

1- Go to CyberDuck’s download page.

2- Download the version that is appropriate for your computer (Windows/Mac).

3- Unzip the downloaded file and follow installation instructions.


Connecting to Compute Canada servers using CyberDuck:

1- Open CyberDuck.

2- Press on the “Open Connection”.

3- Fill in the Form.

1- Change FTP to SFTP. This will change the Port number from 21 to 22.

2- Fill in the Server:

For Mp2b: mp2b.ccs.usherbrooke.ca

For guillimin: guillimin.hpc.mcgill.ca

For Cedar: cedar.computecanada.ca

For Graham: graham.computeCanada.ca

3- Fill in your Compute Canada user name and password.

4- Press connect.


4- Bookmark the Server to easily access it later.

1- Press “Bookmark” in the Menu bar and press “New Bookmark”.

You can now access the server by double clicking the bookmark.


Changing folders in CyberDuck:

1- Press “Go” in the Menu bar and press “Go to Folder”.

2- paste Folder path and press Go.

You can get the Folder path by typing pwd in a terminal logged into the server.


Downloading and Uploading files between computer and server using CyberDuck:

1- Log into the server of interest and Navigate to the folder you need.

2- Right click on the file and click “Download”.

3- You can also upload/download files by dragging and dropping files between the CyberDuck window and your file viewer.
